Top 5 Meadowlands Moneymakers NFL Week 3

New York Giants

Daniel Jones has replaced Eli Manning as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants! Oh… and they’re playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Yes, overshadowed by all the excitement around New York’s elevation of their 2019 1st round pick to starting signal caller, is the bland procedure of the 0-2 Giants’ actual matchup against a 1-1 Bucs squad not playing that much better (or, worse) than Big Blue after two weeks. The 6.5 points the Bucs are favored by outpaces the mere six-point season scoring edge (37-31) they enjoy over the Giants entering Week 3. Still, with Jameis Winston under center, and a Bucs defense that just held the Carolina Panthers offense to zero touchdowns, while sacking Cam Newton three times – bet on the Giants flying back to New Jersey with an 0-3 record. So, which New York/Tampa Bay player props are worth betting bucks on:

Top Prop #1 Daniel Jones to Throw 1 or More TDs

$100 to win $100 (+100) @ PointsBet

Despite Tampa Bay’s sturdy defensive effort in a tough win against the Panthers last week, this is a decent matchup for Jones to debut with. The Bucs played sloppy in their Week 1 home opener loss to San Francisco, allowing their only passing TD thus far in 2019 to Jimmy Garoppolo – but lucking out when penalties negated three 49ers scores, limiting the final loss to “only” 31-17. Despite the absence of Golden Tate and Cody Latimer this week, Jones still has RB Saquon Barkley, TE Evan Engram, and returning WR Sterling Shepard as talented targets. The Bucs have the third-best NFL rushing defense, allowing only 2.69 yards per carry, so New York will look to air it out. Add to that Jones’ intriguing preseason passer rating of 137.5, where he connected on throws at an 85% clip, and you can expect this accurate rookie to overcome his first-start jitters enough to find the end zone at least once.

In response to this week’s Jones starting QB ascension, PointsBet has boosted the odds for this prop from -335 to +100. That, people, is a hell of a boost.

Top Prop #2 Jameis Winston to Pass for 300+ yards and the Buccaneers to Win

$100 to win $175 (+175) @ PointsBet

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen didn’t beat up the Giants secondary as badly in Week 2 (253 yards, 1 TD), as Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott did in Week 1 (405 yards, 4 TDs) — but that’s small consolation for New York, as they prepare for an improving Winston. The Bucs QB kept the ball away from the Carolina defense in Week 2, (after throwing two pick-6’s to the 49ers secondary in Week 1), passing for a mistake-free 208 yards and one 20-yard touchdown toss to WR Chris Godwin. Not eye-popping numbers, but impressive enough on the road against a talented Panthers D. While that 208 yards is the most that Winston has thrown for this season, the Giants secondary has allowed the most yards to wide receivers in the NFL thus far (550) – setting up Bucs WRs Godwin and Mike Evans for big weeks, and propelling Winston past 300 yards passing for the first time in 2019.

PointsBet has boosted the odds for this prop from +150 to +175.

New York Jets

21 points. That’s how much the Patriots are favored by at home against the Jets… and it still doesn’t feel like enough. I’d tell you this is the ultimate textbook example of two NFL teams going in different directions, but the Pats already showcased that last week against the Miami Dolphins, resulting in a 43-0 thrashing (on the road, no less). This one is gonna be ugly.

Prop Bet #3 Tom Brady to Get 350+ Passing Yards
$100 to win $350 (+350) @ PointsBet

With Antonio Brown’s helmet cut from New England’s three-headed WR monster that devoured Miami last week, it’s now up to Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman to tear apart a Jets defense that will again be without crucial play-calling MLB C.J. Mosley. He’ll be joined on the Gillette Stadium sideline by fellow LB Jordan Jenkins, leaving the Jets defense very thin in the middle. The only thing preventing Patriots QB Tom Brady from passing for 350 yards is getting so far ahead early that he repeatedly hands it off to RB Sony Michel to run out the clock. That was the template for Brady “only” passing for 341 and 285 yards, respectively in New England’s opening two (likely, of many) blowouts of 2019. However, a week after giving up 325 yards passing to Baker Mayfield, bank on Brady tacking on at least another 25 to that total.

Prop Bet #4 Julian Edelman to Get 100+ Receiving Yards and Patriots Win
$100 to win $300 (+300) @ PointsBet

After last week’s offensively-balanced annihilation of Miami, the question for bettors was obvious: “With so many great Patriots WRs for Brady to throw to, how is any one of them supposed to break out and surpass the century mark in receiving yards?” Well, subtracting Antonio Brown from that equation helps. So, this week, I’m rolling with the guy who has moved the chains the most during the recent New England Super Bowl dynasty. Edelman has yet to either score or surpass 83 yards receiving. However, he is still Tom Brady’s first down machine, and due for a big game against a team his coach loves to humiliate – that, and the alarming habit the reeling Jets defense has of letting short receptions become long touchdowns (as Odell Beckham Jr. demonstrated last week with his 89-yard TD scamper).

PointsBet has boosted the odds for this props from +180 to +200.

Prop Bet #5 Le’Veon Bell to Get 75+ receiving Yards

$100 to win $250 (+250) @ PointsBet

Emerging from the smoky ruins of New York’s two home losses to open 2019, one talented Jets player has demonstrated both consistent offensive production and the ability to avoid contracting mononucleosis. Yes, RB Le’Veon Bell will be Gang Green’s offensive workhorse for the rest of the season, and his dual run/catch skillset can give even top-tier defenses fits. This week, facing New England’s stifling D, I’d bet that Bell stacks up the yards as QB Luke Falk’s receiving safety net . A week after reeling in 10 catches for 61 yards against the Cleveland Browns, expect Bell to lead the Jets aerial effort to save some face against a Patriots team looking to blow them out.
