Betting on the XFL is a wild ride. Trying to figure out the new football league before Vegas does.

My DC pick last week went over like a fart in church, but life goes on. The XFL is going to have some substandard play and there will be inconsistent performances. So, we’ll have to be careful about jumping all in on one team. This league is only three weeks old.

I don’t think anyone could foresee DC laying an egg like that. Nor could they predict Los Angeles showing signs of life on offense. I expect there to be roller coaster weeks like this frequently in the XFL. We are dealing with a league you can’t really quantify. It feels a bit more like throwing darts at the board than handicapping since we have such a limited amount of information. However, that means that Vegas is still trying to figure out the XFL odds and spreads too. On to the XFL Week 4 picks.

XFL Week 4 Betting Predictions

Los Angeles Wildcats at New York Guardians

Spread: Wildcats 7.5 at Draftkings Sportsbook.

Over/Under: 39

Saturday, 2PM on ABC

The Guardians are trash and the Wildcats just won their first game and somehow managed to stop DC from putting up three scores. This is the sort of sucker play designed to draw you in thinking that the Wildcats have somehow turned the corner. Don’t be fooled, this team is B-A-D. However, the Guardians are far worse.

This number is going to go up as I can see both public and sharps jumping on the Wildcats while it’s still at a touchdown. Grab it now before the number inflates to 7.5 or 8. Try and get it at seven, but if it’s going up, lay off. Don’t lock yourself into a play with a number that big. Instead, focus on the total where Los Angeles’ porous defense can make even the Guardians look decent, especially if Matt McGloin is not playing. As much as I’d like to take the points, I can’t do it because New York really is worse than the Wildcats. THE PICK: OVER 39

Seattle Dragons at St. Louis Battlehawks

Spread: Dragons +11at Draftkings Sportsbook.

Over/Under: 38.5

Saturday, 5 PM on FOX

Ugh, Seattle is not god and St. Louis loves to grind you down. St. Louis is also a solid team that slides into the three-spot in the league. I want to see St. Louis do this, but I just can’t advocate laying double-digit points even though St. Louis is that good.

The thing to think about before taking the favorites here is whether or not you think St. Louis will just wing it out there with Jordan Ta’amu or get a lead and then try and eat the clock and hold Seattle down. I don’t. I think they will just try to bully Seattle and physically beat them. It could get really ugly before it’s over.  THE PICK: St. Louis -11

Houston Roughnecks at Dallas Renegades

Spread: Roughnecks -2 at Draftkings Sportsbook.

Over/Under: 50.5

Sunday, 4 PM on FS1

Houston has PJ Walker and Dallas has Landry Jones who is still working his way back from injury. June Jones will not take his foot off the gas, so expect points. This is just a case where the Roughnecks have the better team, the better health, and the better quarterback.

Dallas is capable of knocking off the lesser teams and can probably run with DC and Houston, but it just looks and feels like Houston takes this one. It should be fairly close, but I won’t be surprised if Houston can pull away late. The Roughnecks have the best offense in the league. THE PICK: Houston -2.

DC Defenders at Tampa Bay Vipers

Spread: DC -2.5 at Draftkings Sportsbook.

Over/Under: 44.5

Sunday, 7 PM on ESPN2

This is a perfect bounce back spot for DC. Cardale Jones is coming off his worst performance and won’t be throwing four picks in Tampa. For the life of me I can’t understand why Tampa opened -1.5, but sharp players grabbed them at that number before the market correction. This is one I feel really confident with and would make it my play of the week. Especially so since Tampa has scored 39 points in three weeks. DC is capable of putting that up in one game.  THE PICK: DC Defenders -2.5
